Cistern; small yard, high ground floor

Access to water was very important for fortified buildings. Trakošćan is located at the junction of two watercourses Čemernica and Bednjica, from whose junction the Bednja River flows. At the foot of the town, in the northern side, there is a source of drinking water. In the small central courtyard, a cistern was carved out of the living rock to collect rainwater from the roof and was, along with food and ammunition, a very important supply of water in the event of a siege. The stone frame is from the 18th century, while the metal structure was made in the second half of the 19th century.
