Decorative beam with an inscription; small garden, second floor
Lithothamnium limestone, carved 20 x 60 cm, 1564
A stone beam with decoration and the year depicted with embossed Arabic numerals. In the square field in the middle, next to the stonemason’s markings, the year 1564 is depicted in embossed letters. The year and the markings on the plaque are highlighted in black. On the left and right there is a double row of rhombuses. The plaque is currently embedded in the outer wall above a window on the second floor which closes the inner courtyard of the castle. According to the shape of the beam, we assume that it had more decorative rhomboid decorations on the sides and below the year mark. In 1564, the Trakošćan burg was owned by the Gyulay family, and this probably marks a construction project.
