Chapel in the park; observation point, the first floor

In 1399, the Trakošćan fort – Castrum Trakkenstein – was mentioned for the first time. However, Trakošćan was first mentioned in 1334, when in the list of parishes of the Zagreb diocese, the name Tracustian appears as a toponym of the parish. According to the findings of the research on today’s Chapel of the Holy Cross, the sanctuary includes very early remains of construction, so it is possible that there was a parish church near the then Trakošćan manor house, and that the parish seat was later moved to nearby Bednja. It is a single nave building that ends in a shallow semicircular apse. The façade is simple, plastered and yellowish painted, with only a plinth and a cornice, while on the neoclassical façade there are shallow embossed imitations of carved stones in three vertical zones.
