Inscription with the coat of arms of the Drašković family; western tower, second courtyard

Sandstone, carved, 90 x 40 cm, 1592.

The plaque is cracked horizontally in the middle, but it is glued together. All the parts of the plaque are original. The plaque with the inscription and the coat of arms is embedded above the entrance on the western side of the second outer courtyard of the castle next to the western tower. In the middle of the plaque, there is the coat of arms of the Drašković family, and above and below the plaque, there is a Latin text. In the Renaissance cartouche, there is a crowned griffin, above, there is a helmet from which embossed leaves are hanging. The

 

inscription on the plaque mentions Petar and Ivan Drašković who in 1592 renovated and completed the reconstructions of the castle.

The inscription above the coat of arms reads as follows:

IOANNES ET PETRVS DRASKOWI LIBERI DNI ARCIS TRAKOSTI

AN ETC. ANNO DNI MDXXXXII CONSTRVI FECERVNT

The inscription below the coat of arms reads as follows:

STRAXERVNT VETERES NOBIS NOS POSTERITATI
