The original entrance to the burg; porch wall
The original entrance to the burg is not visible today, and a sketch of the condition after the removal of the façade plaster has been attached. During the works on the façade, an interesting find was noticed on the wall in the southwestern part of the building, in the western part of today’s porch of the castle – a regular opening partially carved into the sandstone rock. Research has shown that the oldest entrance to the fort was carved into the living rock at this point, probably dating to the mid-13th century. In similar medieval forts, the entrance was elevated, and you could only enter using a ladder. This made the siege of the burg more difficult
because the attackers had to move on the left, along the southern side on the way to the entrance, thus exposing the front part of the body to the defenders.
